For some people, the universe puts together a perfect confluence of events that help define one’s destiny, and for Rick Hilton, surrounded by a family successful in property development, educated and experienced in the field, it was only natural that he would connect with partner Jeff Hyland to build one of the most successful luxury real estate companies in the U.S.
Industrious and entrepreneurial from an early age, Hilton started to develop his business acumen, taking advantage of every opportunity that came his way, whether it was selling stationery door to door in his youth, working as a hotel bell attendant during school breaks, or successfully promoting hospitality events during his college years.
Hilton attended the University of Denver where he also played volleyball while earning a B.A. in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
Hilton continued to develop his industry knowledge and savvy after college by joining New York based Eastdil Secured, an investment banking firm focused on real estate development, debt, private equity and corporate transactions. In 1984 he formed Hilton Realty investment, growing it until attained sales of $250 million annually, and subsequently merging it into the entity that he started with Jeff Hyland, Hilton & Hyland, in 1993.
Rick Hilton and Jeff Hyland have built their firm to one of international repute, representing buyers and sellers of selected fine homes in the Los Angeles area, as well as exclusive coastal properties from Santa Barbara to San Diego.
Hilton’s family background and his social and philanthropic contacts have uniquely prepared his firm to represent some of the greatest homes in the US, including the sale of Candy Spelling’s 56,000 square foot, 123 room Holmby Hills estate; the property sold for a record-breaking $85 million.
Capitalizing on their domestic success and contacts, Hilton & Hyland has embarked on an effort to greatly expand their international presence, becoming the founding affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate.
A resident of Bel Air, Hilton has been married to the former Kathy Richards for over thirty years, and together they are the parents for four children, Paris, Nicky, Barron and Conrad. Mr. and Mrs. Hilton are active socially and philanthropically in both Southern California and greater New York City.
