Williams’ Style and Nuance Remain at Forefront of Los Angeles Area Homes Today

Paul Williams is one of the most well-regarded architects in California’s deeply-rooted architectural history.

One of Jeff Hyland’s current listings, at 10410 Bellagio Road, was designed by Paul Williams in 1931. The Spanish-style estate was extensively remodeled and expanded in 2007. With approximately 1.8 acres of usable land, the house has an open floor plan surrounding the beautiful courtyard fountain and outdoor fireplace.

Each room of the home is authentically detailed with exquisite craftsmanship, creating a romantic, timeless feeling throughout. The downstairs master suite has its own private patio garden and a separate guest suite, also downstairs, has its own outside entry. Upstairs are six additional bedrooms plus a family room. For all exercise needs there is a gym, massage room, and off the pool house with its separate BBQ patio area, a tennis court which overlooks a stream and path to a secret tea house. In addition to a majestic living room, there is a two story family room, a state-of-the-art Chef’s kitchen, theater room, library, billiards room, and wine cellar.

Up the street, Drew Fenton earlier this year sold a property, also designed by Williams. This 1930s mansion in Bel-Air, later expanded by William Hefner, retains hallmarks of the earlier architect’s timeless Traditional style. A welcoming entry, light-filled rooms and windows oriented to take in the views of gardens are among his enduring touches. These are cornerstones to Williams’ legacy.

Features of this home include a two-story foyer, floating-style staircase, high ceilings, two dining rooms, screening room, wine cellar, bar, billiard room, two offices, gift-wrapping room, flower-arranging room, beauty salon, eight fireplaces, two motor courts, paddle tennis court, swimming pool, and a seven-car garage.

This week’s excerpt from Jeff Hyland’s book, “The Legendary Estates of Beverly Hills,” the home on Brooklawn Drive, is also a Paul Williams creation.
