Judy Feder Lists Victor Gruen Designed Home

It would be difficult to argue that any architect had a greater impact on shaping the consumer culture of America than Victor Gruen.

An Austrian-born architect who moved to Los Angeles in 1941, Gruen was best known as a pioneer in the design of shopping centers in the United States, and commonly referred to as the inventor of the modern shopping mall.

Victor fled Nazi Germany’s annexation of Austria in 1938, eventually settling in Los Angeles and becoming an American citizen.

One of his first American retail projects was the Lederer leather-goods shop on New York’s famed Fifth Avenue. After the store was completed, Gruen founded “Victor Gruen Associates”, an agency of talented architects, engineers and planners.

The firm stormed the nation and completely rewrote the standards of center city designs, while simultaneously creating large shopping malls that came to be the focus of suburban consumers and retailers alike.

Judy Feder of Hilton & Hyland, is extremely proud to list a Victor Gruen designed home in Beverly Hills.

An exceptionally presented mid-century modern classic, the 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom home represents a rare and exquisite departure by Gruen. The home sits atop a 4,605 square foot lot, and showcases many examples of the era in which it was built.

Huge windows look upon a lush rear garden, while clerestories flood several of the rooms with fantastic natural light.

The home has served as the inspiration for many of the newer moderns, and evokes a sense of glamor and style that few homes have been able to replicate.
